About The Position

This role involves instructing assigned classes, teaching proper techniques and form of appropriate skills. The counselor will need to have good sports skills and experience with the class, gym, and outdoor areas. Responsibilities include keeping accurate attendance and class records, evaluating students' ability levels, and possessing strong knowledge of rules, guidelines, and behavior expectations. The counselor may be called upon to referee, report practice and game notes, and explain progress and procedures to parents. Additionally, they will prepare gym/outdoor areas with necessary equipment/supplies, maintain order and safety in class, and instruct on the proper use of youth exercise equipment. The counselor should also be informed of all current and/or upcoming programs and special events to interpret YMCA membership and program information to members and potential members to increase their participation. The role also includes cleaning the area after class, reporting any damaged or broken equipment to the supervisor immediately, ensuring a safe environment for all participants, and maintaining and monitoring equipment usage. A key aspect is providing friendly, courteous service to all members, clients, and volunteers of the Y, and contributing to a positive work environment by illustrating pride in the job, enthusiasm, and cooperation with co-workers.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a high school diploma.
  • Minimum of 1 to 2 years of prior experience in Soccer instruction, implementation, organization and supervision.
  • Must obtain Massachusetts Youth Soccer Grassroots License within 6 months of employment.
  • Ability to work with people of all ages.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to lift at least 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to walk, stand, stoop and bend during the work day.
  • Knowledge of various sports and game modifications.

Responsibilities
