About The Position

This part-time summer opportunity is ideal for educators and program leaders seeking meaningful work, gaining real leadership experience, building a team, and shaping the summer for over 60 children and their families. By season's end, you'll enhance your resume, build a network of 400+ NORY educators, and have tangible accomplishments to share in future interviews. NORY is the leading STEM camp provider in NYC and Boston, serving over 4,000 campers each summer across 10+ locations. We are known as the Disney World of STEM education, offering an immersive, joyful experience that inspires 3–12-year-olds to become purposeful change makers through robotics, coding, woodworking, and engineering.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience working with children ages 3–12.
  • Experience in teaching, camp leadership, or similar roles required.
  • Proven team leadership. You have managed or mentored at least four people and can demonstrate how you supported their development.
  • Strong family engagement skills. You confidently and compassionately handle both routine and challenging parent conversations.
  • Operational steadiness. You remain organized and composed when unexpected situations arise.
  • Growth mindset. You're receptive to feedback, eager to learn new tools, and committed to personal development.
  • Effectiveness with children, professionalism with adults, and reliability under pressure are essential.

Nice To Haves

  • STEM background is a plus but not necessary.
  • A teaching license or STEM degree is not required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of 6–12 counselors during morning programming. Provide daily coaching, facilitate morning huddles, offer meaningful feedback, and support their growth as educators.
  • Serve as the primary contact for families at drop-off. Welcome parents in the morning, proactively address concerns, and communicate weekly about their child's experience.
  • Oversee morning site operations. Manage the morning schedule, materials, facilities, safety protocols, attendance, and incident reporting during your shift.
  • Step in to teach as needed. Fill in for counselors or lead a morning class to ensure a consistent, high-quality camper experience.
  • Hand off cleanly to the afternoon lead. Provide a brief written and verbal handover at 1:00 PM so the afternoon team is set up for success.
