About The Position

Summer is in full swing at East Gate Kids, and we have an immediate opening for a Summer Camp Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate would be someone who can hit the ground running immediately. If you are available now and ready to make an impact for the remainder of the season, we want to hear from you today. At East Gate Kids, our summer program is one of the most dynamic seasons of the year. We serve families intentionally, build community deeply, and create structured, joy-filled experiences for school-age children. We are looking for energetic, responsible leaders who want to do more than supervise. We're looking for leaders who can manage a group of children with confidence, keep activities moving smoothly, and maintain strong safety standards - while still creating an environment kids are excited to be part of. You can make a big difference creating the kind of memories that shape a child's confidence and friendships for years to come. This role is ideal for someone who: Loves being active and outdoors. Thrives in fast-paced environments. Can bring both structure and fun. If you naturally take initiative, stay calm under pressure, and enjoy active, structured days, this may be a strong fit.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience working with children (camp, after-school, childcare, church, coaching, etc.).
  • Ability to lead groups confidently and maintain safety standards.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs and stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to multitask and adapt in a fast-paced classroom environment.
  • Valid driver's license (for driving roles).
  • CPR/First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Ability to pass all state-required background checks.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree or coursework in Early Childhood Education preferred.
  • Previous summer camp leadership experience.
  • Experience leading older elementary or pre-teen groups.
  • Interest in education, youth development, recreation, or leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Lead engaging daily activities that blend fun, creativity, and character development.
  • Create safe, high-energy environments where kids feel seen and valued.
  • Mentor children through social challenges, teamwork, and life skill growth.
  • Partner with families during one of the most memory-filled seasons of childhood.
  • Build leadership skills that translate into future education or youth development roles.
  • Lead structured games, themed activities, outdoor play, and enrichment projects.
  • Help implement weekly camp themes and engaging group challenges.
  • Supervise children during transitions, meals, outings, and quiet periods.
  • Maintain strong safety practices and accountability standards.
  • Model positive social interaction and respectful communication.
  • Assist with setup, cleanup, and maintaining organized spaces.
  • Communicate professionally with parents during drop-off and pickup.
  • Maintain compliance with New Mexico childcare licensing and safety standards.
  • Support life-skills-based activities (teamwork, responsibility, leadership).
