About The Position

The summer camp is designed for students entering grades 3rd through 8th and provides engaging, hands-on learning experiences through biology, art, and athletic activities. Camp counselors help create a safe, positive, educational, and fun environment while supporting campers throughout all daily activities. Summer Camp Counselors are responsible for supervising campers, assisting instructors, leading group activities, ensuring safety procedures are followed, and encouraging positive participation during all camp experiences. Counselors serve as role models while helping campers build confidence, teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving skills.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to supervise groups of children in both indoor and outdoor settings
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and positive interactions with campers, parents, and staff

Nice To Haves

  • College coursework in education, recreation, biology, art, athletics, child development, or related fields preferred
  • Experience working with children or youth programs preferred
  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and actively engage with campers in grades 3rd–8th
  • Assist with biology, art, and athletic camp activities
  • Escort campers safely between activity locations on campus
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and inclusive camp environment
  • Encourage teamwork, cooperation, and positive behavior
  • Assist instructors with preparing materials and activity setup
  • Monitor camper attendance and participate in check-in/check-out procedures
  • Respond appropriately to minor conflicts or behavioral concerns
  • Ensure campers follow all safety guidelines and campus rules
  • Provide encouragement and support to all campers
  • Assist with snack, lunch, and break supervision
  • Communicate concerns or incidents promptly to camp leadership
  • Participate in staff meetings and daily camp briefings
  • Serve as a positive representative of the college and camp program
