About The Position

This role involves working directly with assigned campers to foster their safety, independence, exploration, and integration into the camp community. The goal is to build camper self-esteem through positive interactions and establishing trust. Counselors will demonstrate positive behavioral management techniques, communicate effectively with individuals in a person-centered and age-appropriate manner, and report any health, behavioral, or programmatic issues to the Head Counselor and other staff. Active participation in the camp program, supporting campers at their required level, and assisting Activity Leaders are key. Counselors will live cooperatively within the camp community, assist with evening cabin or program responsibilities, and complete all assigned documentation accurately and on time. They will also develop free time activities that encourage teamwork, positive interaction, and personal growth, while adhering to all relevant policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Ability to work with assigned campers to promote safety, independence, exploration and integration into the camp community.
  • Ability to facilitate camper self-esteem through positive interactions and building a relationship of trust.
  • Ability to demonstrate positive behavioral management techniques and communicate with individuals in a person-centered, age appropriate manner.
  • Ability to inform the Head Counselor and other camp staff about health, behavioral, and programmatic issues that occur.
  • Ability to actively participate in the camp program with assigned group by supporting campers at whatever level they may need.
  • Ability to assist Activity leaders in program facilitation and demonstrate a positive attitude about all camp activities.
  • Ability to live cooperatively within the camp community and assist with evening cabin or program responsibilities.
  • Ability to complete assigned notes, daily logs, and other documentation thoroughly, accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Ability to attend and actively participate in required trainings, team meetings, and supervision meetings.
  • Ability to develop free time activities that promote team work, positive interaction and personal growth.
  • Adherence to State of Maryland, PATH, American Camp Association, CARF, and Melwood policies and procedures.
