About The Position

The Cook for the Follow Me and Lead Summer Camp program will be responsible for the preparation of nutritious and well-balanced meals for the campers. The cook will ensure that meals are planned, prepared, and served in accordance with food safety standards while encouraging healthy eating habits. The cook will also handle the procurement of food supplies and maintain a clean and organized kitchen environment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Prior experience as a cook or in food service is required.
  • Knowledge of healthy meal planning for children
  • Ability to manage food inventory and stay within budget
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet meal schedule deadlines
  • Excellent hygiene and safety practices
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Compassionate and empathetic demeanor.
  • Ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing community needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in food safety or nutrition is preferred.
  • Experience working with children or in a camp setting is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and prepare daily meals, focusing on health-conscious options, including fruits, vegetables, and protein sources to meet the nutritional needs of children.
  • Purchase food supplies in accordance with budget and dietary guidelines.
  • Cook breakfast, lunch, and snacks for campers, ensuring portion control and accommodating any food allergies or dietary restrictions.
  • Serve meals in a timely and friendly manner, fostering a positive and welcoming dining experience for the children.
  • Maintain cleanliness and order in the kitchen, including washing dishes, cleaning food prep areas, and properly storing ingredients.
  • Incorporate a variety of fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains into meals, encouraging healthy eating habits among campers.
  • Ensure compliance with all local food handling regulations and health department guidelines to provide safe and sanitary meal services.
