About The Position

Under general direction, assists with the planning, coordination, and implementation of summer youth programming, which includes a 4-week youth leadership camp, supporting youth engagement through structured activities that promote leadership development, social-emotional learning, and positive decision-making using a strength-based, trauma-informed approach. The Summer Assistant will also support office projects, daily operations and administrative and operational support to the Juvenile Case and Diversion Program as assigned.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic youth development principles and positive behavior support strategies
  • Knowledge of general office practices and administrative procedures
  • Ability to work effectively with youth, including at-risk populations
  • Ability to build positive relationships while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries
  • Ability to follow directions, take initiative, and work both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to manage time effectively and complete assigned tasks in a timely manner
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Ability to demonstrate cultural awareness and work effectively with diverse populations
  • Ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 30 lbs.
  • Skill in utilizing Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook) and basic office equipment such as printers, copiers and scanners; calculators, laminators, paper cutters and binding machines
  • Skill in use of telephone and mobile communication devices, projectors and basic audio/visual equipment.
  • Skill in basic organization, time management, and attention to detail
  • Skill in facilitating or supporting group activities and engaging participants
  • College coursework in education, social work, criminal justice, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in summer programs, camps, or youth-serving organizations
  • Must have a valid Class C Texas Driver’s License

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the implementation of a 4-week youth leadership summer camp, including facilitating activities supporting daily logistics and ensuring a safe and engaging environment for participants.
  • Support the delivery of youth programming focused on leadership development, life skills, social-emotional learning, and positive peer interaction.
  • Build positive, professional relationships with youth participants to encourage engagement, accountability, and personal growth.
  • Assist with activity setup, facilitation, and breakdown for daily camp sessions, workshops, and field trips.
  • Monitor student participation and behavior, reinforcing program expectations and promoting a positive environment.
  • Provide support during educational field trips, including supervision and coordination.
  • Collaborate with program staff to ensure activities are implemented effectively and align with program goals.
  • Assist with tracking attendance, participation, and basic program data as directed.
  • Provide general administrative support, including filing, organizing materials, data entry, and preparing program resources.
  • Assist with outreach efforts and preparation of program materials (e.g., binders, supplies, handouts).
  • Support office projects and special initiatives as assigned by supervisor.
  • Maintain professionalism and adhere to City policies, procedures and code of ethics.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
