We are currently seeking an experienced SUE Utility Locator to support on-call and project-based assignments across transportation, municipal, and private development projects. Requirements

  • 3–5 years of experience in utility locating or Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) services
  • Demonstrated proficiency with electromagnetic utility locators and ground penetrating radar (GPR)
  • Knowledge of ASCE 38-22 standards or current SUE standards and best practices
  • Ability to identify and troubleshoot complex underground utility networks
  • Strong understanding of utility color codes, marking standards, and utility locating procedures
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and site conditions
  • Strong communication, organization, and documentation skills

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience supporting transportation or municipal infrastructure projects
  • Familiarity with survey coordination and GIS data collection workflows
  • Experience working with One-Call systems or private utility locating operations
  • NULCA, SUE, or equivalent industry certifications and training
  • Primarily field-based work with exposure to active construction sites, traffic corridors, and undeveloped terrain
  • On-call availability may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, or emergency response assignments
  • Travel within local and regional project areas as needed

Responsibilities

  • Perform field utility locating using electromagnetic locating equipment, ground penetrating radar (GPR), and related technologies
  • Designate underground utilities using industry-standard utility markings and color codes
  • Collect and document Quality Level B (QL-B) utility data and support Quality Level A (QL-A) investigations as assigned
  • Interpret utility records, construction plans, maps, and as-built documentation
  • Coordinate with One-Call systems, utility owners, survey crews, project managers, and field personnel
  • Prepare accurate field notes, sketches, photos, and supporting documentation
  • Maintain locating equipment, verify calibration, and ensure proper functionality
  • Follow company safety protocols and maintain a strong safety-first mindset
  • Provide reliable on-call support, including urgent and short-notice requests when required
