About The Position

A SUE Project Coordinator I provides project administration, scheduling, financial processing, and technical administrative assistance to Project Surveyors and Project Managers. This role involves monitoring projects to ensure they meet or exceed customer expectations in terms of cost, timeframes, and work performance. The position also includes managing work supplies, scheduling vehicle and equipment maintenance, and maintaining an inventory of SUE equipment and vehicles. A key responsibility is training SUE technicians in utility designating theories and methods, as well as supervising SUE crews in vacuum excavation. The coordinator will direct multiple field crews, manage daily routes, compile internal documentation, and ensure the quality of deliverables. Support for Permit Modifications Requests, 811 Tickets, Records Requests, MOT, and Start Work Notices is also required. Additionally, the role assists with new employee onboarding and may participate in direct crew activities.

Requirements

  • Two-year Associates degree in Land Surveying/Civil Engineering Technology and/or 3 years of SUE locating or surveying field experience.
  • Basic experience with field SUE locate and designate procedures and equipment as related to current industry standards.
  • Basic knowledge of laws and regulations affecting private vs public rights of way, Sunshine 811, Maintenance of Traffic/Temporary Traffic Control, City, County, State, and other permitting requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise multiple crews and complex projects.
  • Experience supervising subconsultants to perform SUE services such as traffic control & concrete cutting.
  • Strong communication, client-facing, and leadership skills.
  • High level of proficiency with GPR, electromagnetic locating equipment, and software like AutoCAD, MicroStation, & Bluebeam.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office.
  • Advanced knowledge of SUE field practices and underground utility systems.
  • Understanding of ASCE 38-02 & how to effectively implement.
  • Basic understanding of technical specifications related to project deliverables.
  • Experience with BlueBeam Revu or comparable geomatics software. (ArcGIS, Google Earth, Survey123, etc.) (open drawings, compute closures, edit drawing information, create minor drawings, plot points, and import and export data).
  • Basic knowledge of GIS systems, data reliability and support of company resources related to GIS technology.
  • Prior experience working in a project-oriented service business a must: coordinating with design engineers, survey teams, and utility owners.
  • Desire and ability to maintain strict safety protocols (OSHA standards) and perform quality control on utility mapping and reports in accordance with ASCE standards.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, survey plans, and geophysical data gathered using ground-penetrating radar (GPR) and electromagnetic locators.
  • Responsible, organized, detail-oriented, inquisitive, and assertive with a take-charge attitude and concern for follow-through to completeness.
  • Ability to work as part of a large team consisting of professional and technical staff.
  • Ability to work independently and initiate action without waiting for detailed instruction.
  • Persuasive skills, empathy, and sociability to work closely with people in potentially difficult situations and develop effective, trustworthy working relationships with Project Managers and Field Crew staff.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, an acceptable motor vehicle record, cleared background check and a negative drug test result.

Nice To Haves

  • SUE Technician, Land Surveying Intern, Surveyor in Training, Certified Surveying Technician, or other similar certifications are preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft EXCEL skills, ArcGIS/Survey123 experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide project administration, scheduling, financial processing, and technical administration assistance to Project Manager and staff.
  • Assist with monitoring projects to ensure cost, timeframes, and work performance meets or exceeds customer expectations.
  • Assist with monitoring and ordering of work supplies and scheduling vehicle and equipment maintenance.
  • Maintain inventory of all SUE equipment and vehicles on a weekly basis.
  • Train SUE technicians in the theory of utility designating and practical application of designating methods (DESIGNATING/QLB).
  • Train and supervise SUE crews in vacuum excavation (test holes, QLA).
  • Assist directing multiple field crews with constantly changing priorities and schedules and ensuring the quality of the deliverables.
  • Manage daily crew routes.
  • Assist with compiling internal documentation and the inspection of deliverables for accuracy and correctness.
  • Provide Permit Modifications Requests, 811 Tickets, Records Requests, MOT, and Start Work Notice support.
  • Assist with new employee onboarding.
  • Supervise one or more SUE crews and participate, as needed, in direct crew activities.
  • Inventory field materials and provide evaluations/crew level maintenance for electronic equipment such as Ground Penetrating Radar units, Electronic Multi-Frequence Cable/Pipe Locators, Trimble GPS Units, and Trimble Total Stations.
