About The Position

The Bachelor’s Level SUD Counselor will provide individual and group therapy to clients while performing duties within the scope of their level of training. This role involves conducting counseling sessions, developing and implementing treatment plans, maintaining patient records, and staying updated on current drug abuse and treatment information. The counselor will also perform administrative duties and assist patients in achieving their social, educational, and occupational goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work, Human Services, Counseling, and/or Criminal Justice field.
  • Must have demonstrated experience in the treatment and care of men and women who have substance abuse issues.
  • Must demonstrate a current knowledge of counseling and research findings and literature pertaining to alcohol/drug abuse.
  • The ability to assess an individual’s need for clinical services.
  • Knowledge of state and national certification and regulatory standards.
  • The ability to complete accurate and timely documentation within CMS guidelines.
  • The ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of community resources and referral sources.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to effectively function as an OVP team member.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to effectively manage multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Must possess and demonstrate effective communication and organizational skills.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to customarily and regularly exercise discretion and independent judgment in significant matters.

Nice To Haves

  • Two to three years of experience working in community mental health preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts alcohol and drug abuse counseling sessions on a regular basis per state regulation, or as part of the individual treatment plan.
  • Conducts group counseling sessions as required.
  • Orients patients to the treatment program’s operation and procedures.
  • Implement or revise patient treatment plans with the patient as required by state regulation and record a review of the patient’s progress.
  • Assists patients in identifying, maximizing, and relating their strengths to appropriate social, educational (academic and vocational), and occupational goals.
  • Develops within (10) days of entry, or as required by state guidelines, whichever is more stringent, a formal treatment plan documenting patient goals and update utilizing the same guidelines.
  • Maintains patient records that are complete, comprehensive and well organized.
  • Holds a basic understanding of alcohol/drug abuse and addiction.
  • Keep updated on current drug abuse and treatment information, especially current trends in Opioid Maintenance Treatments.
  • Performs administrative duties such as signing off on notes.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
