About The Position

HealthRIGHT 360, a nonprofit organization, is dedicated to providing accessible healthcare to vulnerable populations, focusing on mental health, substance use treatment, and primary health services. Acceptance Place is a residential treatment program for men identifying as Gay, Bisexual, or Transgender (F/M) with substance use disorders. The program offers a 90-day inpatient service including individual and group therapy, case management, drug and alcohol counseling, medication support, and crisis intervention. The SUD Counselor III is an AOD Certified professional who assesses client needs and strengths, provides individual and group counseling, delivers program curricula, assists clients in navigating systems of care, and supports new staff and interns. This role is crucial in fostering a supportive treatment environment for client recovery.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Must be certified as an Alcohol and Other Drug Counselor or as a Substance Abuse Counselor with a California approved certifying agency (CCAPP, CADTP, or CAADE).
Current First Aid and CPR certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
Possess a valid CA driver’s license.
Minimum of one year of experience as a registered substance abuse or behavioral disorder counselor or recovery specialist in community mental health.
Experience carrying a caseload.
Culturally competent and able to work with a diverse population.
Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word, Outlook, and internet applications.
Experience working successfully with issues of substance abuse, mental health, criminal background, and other potential barriers to economic self-sufficiency.
Must be capable of obtaining and maintaining a satisfactory background check.
Must be capable of meeting health screening and tuberculosis testing requirements.
Must be capable of maintaining credential requirements.
Must be capable of meeting the program and funder requirements.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree in health and human services, Social Work, Psychology, or other related field preferred.
Preferably bilingual in the county language threshold.

Responsibilities

Maintain an assigned caseload of up to 25 clients, providing individualized weekly counseling.
Facilitate group counseling sessions, community meetings, and teach classes on various treatment-related topics.
Perform crisis intervention and communicate with the treatment team during unforeseen situations.
Document all group and individual counseling sessions within 24-72 hours per contract requirements.
Meet the residential service delivery goal of 60%.
Proactively link clients to internal and external resources based on their treatment needs.
Follow up on the progress or status of clients’ treatment.
Document client updates and incidents daily.
Maintain safety and security of clients in the facility by performing periodic house runs.
Ensure client medications are securely stored and properly accounted for.
Monitor and document client administration of medication.
Assign client duties and sign off upon completion.
Accompany clients to offsite appointments related to their treatment as needed.
Collaborate with clients and resources to develop or maintain problem lists, treatment plans, transition plans, progress notes, and updates.
Complete discharge paperwork/process and other required agency assessments in a timely manner.
Support the intake process, including preparing rooms and maintaining supplies.
Perform property and room searches as needed.
Respond to overdose and other medical emergencies.
Perform tests for substance use such as urinalysis and breathalyzer.
Observe clients every 30 minutes and document on the observation log.
Collect, clean, or dispose of biohazard waste.
Disinfect and clean rooms and common areas as needed.
Accurately enter data in various electronic systems for all clients.
Read and respond to emails, calls, and Teams messages in a timely manner.
Complete assigned training as needed and by the due date.
Attend and actively participate in meetings.
Plan and facilitate celebrations and special events.
Work on weekends and holidays as needed.
Assist with onboarding of new hires and training or mentoring of new and existing employees, interns, or ambassadors.
Perform other duties as assigned.
