About The Position

Under direction, the Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Clinician performs assessments of program participants, prepares assessment reports and coordinates referrals for treatment. This position ensures prompt and complete clinical treatment services and counseling, conducts interviews, coordinates cases with probation, District and Circuit Court, and jail/program staff. The SUD Clinician also gathers data and records and prepares related reports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a related field
  • Current State of Michigan license is preferred, if licensure is available for the degree field
  • Minimum of two (2) years of professional substance abuse therapy, counseling and/or case management experience
  • Certification with the Michigan Certification Board for Addiction Professionals (MCBAP) or an approved development plan within six months of hire
  • Possession of a valid Michigan driver’s license and operable, insured automobile for authorized travel
  • Knowledge of Mental health treatment and chemical dependency services
  • Knowledge of Court processes and procedures
  • Knowledge of Basic concepts of human behavior, specifically related to substance use and criminality
  • Knowledge of Job-related software including Microsoft Office and other computer programs
  • Knowledge of Legal terminology and court procedures
  • Knowledge of Court systems, probation departments, law enforcement agencies and their operations
  • Knowledge of Available varying types of treatment facilities and programs available
  • Skill in Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships
  • Skill in Performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature
  • Skill in Effective verbal and written communications
  • Skill in Assigning, prioritizing, monitoring, reviewing work assignments and time management
  • Skill in Motivational interviewing techniques
  • Skill in Implementing intervention methodologies and techniques
  • Skill in Recognizing substance abuse and/or mental health issues
  • Skill in Finding appropriate treatment/care centers and making timely referrals to coordinate care
  • Skill in Maintaining organization and time management
  • Skill in Managing crisis interventions with clients or treatment agencies
  • Skill in Training new staff, interns or externs
  • Ability to Meet schedules and deadlines of the work
  • Ability to Understand and carry out oral and written directions
  • Ability to Accurately organize and maintain paper documents and electronic files
  • Ability to Maintain the confidentiality of information and professional boundaries
  • Ability to Manage crisis situations and provide crisis intervention
  • Ability to Use Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) for diagnosis of mental disorder and monitor levels of appropriate care
  • Ability to Develop appropriate care plans and treatment services
  • Ability to Work in an environment which embraces the county’s Dignity Campaign
  • Ability to Effectively speak, write and understand the English language
  • Ability to Work independently

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or other related field
  • Current State of Michigan license is required, if degree field requires licensure to practice
  • Effectively speak, write and understand a language other than English is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Conducts assessment interviews and makes assessment reports.
  • Creates and monitors Individual Treatment Plans for program participants.
  • Coordinates and monitors treatment and other service delivery items.
  • Coordinates and monitors ancillary services with judges, staff, Community Corrections, Circuit Court Probation, treatment providers, and other agencies.
  • Prepares case files, maintains records, utilizes case management systems and enters data.
  • Prepares progress and statistical reports.
  • Monitors participants, candidates and a comparison group.
  • Appears at court sessions.
  • Operates an automobile to perform assigned job functions.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
