About The Position

The Success Coach is primarily responsible for the engagement, assessment to determine needs, goal development and creation of extended learning opportunities to help L.E.A.P. High Afterschool students successfully transition to high school (9th through 12th Grades), develop meaningful relationships with their families, school and community, stay on track for graduation and begin to develop a plan for post-secondary success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (A.) from a four-year college or university and a major in social work or a related field.
  • One (1) to Two (2) years' experience in working with adolescents in an educational, criminal justice, or human services setting required.
  • Professional training in child abuse is required.
  • Knowledgeable about transitioning to high school, the requirements to get into college and securing financial assistance to fund one's education.
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before individuals, public groups and employees of the organization.
  • Effective organizational, time management and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain open channels of communication between home and school.
  • Knowledge of school/community relationships and community problems, interests and concerns.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills and leadership abilities.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word and Excel).
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of community groups, organizations, district staff, consultants, students and parents.
  • Ability to utilize computer spreadsheets and input data.
  • Must maintain all necessary certifications set forth by either the funding agency, State of Florida or the YMCA of South Florida.

  • Must submit to and satisfactorily clear a thorough Level II fingerprint background screening.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts a complete intake and registration of students within stipulated timeframes.
  • Provides required support to help students transition to high school, utilize available resources and personnel to ensure a successful high school experience, to graduate on time.
  • Works with agencies and service providers to facilitate case coordination and information sharing.
  • Refers youth and their families to appropriate school and community agencies or counseling agencies for social and educational support.
  • Maintains case records and provides assistance with appropriate documentation.
  • Assists with prevention/education curriculum development and implementation.
  • Works with guidance to coordinate, prepare and maintain required charting to help provide direction and documentation to proactively address challenges in a timely and thorough manner.
  • Adheres to all confidentiality requirements and policies.
  • Plans, initiates and monitors innovative programs for youth and their families, e.g., financial literacy, study skills, time management.
  • Works with culturally diverse students, families, and staff.
  • May provide some direct supervision to interns and volunteers.
  • Adheres to the Child Abuse & Neglect Reporting requirements, which mandate by law all childcare personnel to report suspicions of child abuse, neglect, or abandonment. The YMCA requires employees to follow the internal reporting procedures with the assistance of the Program Managers.
  • Ensures that the proper staff to child ratios are maintained at all times and reports discrepancies to the Site Supervisor or Program Manager as needed.
  • Assists the Site Supervisor in any other appropriate ways as directed.
