About The Position

The Success Coach for the Foster Care Alumni Success (FCAS) Center promotes student retention and engagement by providing direct support services to students with foster care experience who are navigating barriers in higher education. The position provides individualized success coaching, advocacy, resource navigation, and ongoing student support while fostering a welcoming and inclusive campus environment. Responsibilities include responding to student inquiries through the FCAS hotline and other outreach channels; conducting proactive outreach and follow-up with students; assisting with workshops, programs, and events focused on academic success; maintaining student records and engagement data; assisting with program assessment and reporting; and collaborating with faculty, staff, and community partners to connect students with campus and community resources that promote persistence and graduation success. Work is performed under general supervision and performance is based upon completion of assignments and results obtained. The performance evaluation is conducted through the performance evaluation system and in accordance with the University Policies & Procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in the field of Education, Social Work, Psychology Communications or related field.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in academic advising, student mentoring, youth advocacy, college access programming or related activity.
  • Regular and reliable attendance at the University during regular scheduled days and work hours is an essential function of this position.
  • All employees share the responsibility of maintaining information security and privacy requirements within the university by adhering to Federal and State regulations, and TWU Policies & Procedures.
  • Knowledge of case management practices, and best practices related to supporting students navigating barriers to higher education.
  • Knowledge of higher education systems, student support services, financial aid processes, and community resources available to college students.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practices, crisis response, and holistic student support approaches.
  • Ability to develop, coordinate, and implement student success programs, workshops, outreach initiatives, and engagement activities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, community agencies, and external partners.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with diverse populations and stakeholders.
  • Ability to assess student needs, provide appropriate referrals, and manage sensitive or complex student situations with professionalism and discretion.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and maintain accurate records, assessment data, reports, and case management documentation.
  • Skill in organization, problem-solving, time management, and managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced student services environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in customer service and office administration is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts holistic advising and coaching for current and prospective students utilizing multiple modalities such as in-person, virtual, phone, and email.
  • Coordinates activities, outreach initiatives, and programs related to the Foster Care Alumni Success Center, including student onboarding, orientation support, academic success programming, workshops, case management services, assessment, and data reporting.
  • Provides guidance to students by assisting with setting and achieving educational and career goals.
  • Helps students make informed academic decisions by teaching them how to track their academic progress, locate and interpret appropriate policies, and utilize the tools and resources available.
  • Monitors, tracks, and follows up on the academic progress of assigned student caseload.
  • Analyzes and interprets student data, transcripts, and placement results.
  • Keeps notes and follows best practices for documenting student appointments/contacts/interventions.
  • Manages a caseload by keeping abreast of relevant academic programs and support services such as counseling, career coaching, and tutoring within the University and referring students as appropriate.
  • Stays informed of University academic programs and support services-including counseling, career coaching, and tutoring and refers students as appropriate.
  • Speaks to various constituencies representing CARE and the University community (e.g., students, advisors, parents, faculty, administrators, etc.) regarding the coaching and advising processes and other activities.
  • Maintains a clear understanding of all applicable federal, state, and University policies and procedures as it relates to the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) and other THECB regulations.
  • Performs other duties as requested.
