About The Position

Western Colorado University invites applications for the full-time position of Success Advisor & Testing Coordinator. This position plays a critical role in supporting at-risk students and coordinating services that promote student persistence and academic achievement. The Success Advisor works primarily with students on academic probation, those returning from suspension, and students identified as needing additional academic assistance. The position delivers individualized academic support, develops success strategies, and connects students to campus resources. The advisor also coordinates and presents academic workshops, assists with new student registration, and advises students from a variety of academic programs. As Testing Coordinator, this position oversees the administration of university placement and proficiency exams including ALEKS, CLEP, WebCAPE, and others. The coordinator is also responsible for data entry and processing of test results, including AP and IB credits, that impact course placement, registration, and degree completion. The position reports to the Lead Advisor. This is an on-campus position.

Requirements

  • BA/BS
  • Ability to work with a wide diversity of people.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Comfortable with public speaking and workshop facilitation.
  • One to two years student support or related Higher Education experience.

Nice To Haves

  • MA/MS/M.Ed. in Counseling, Education, or related field.
  • Knowledge of student success strategies and best practices.
  • Experience with assessment.
  • Working knowledge of LMS (Banner, Workday, Slate, etc.)
  • Experience working with at-risk populations.
  • Academic workshop facilitation experience.

Responsibilities

  • Advise and support students on academic probation or returning from suspension.
  • Coordinate the Academic Recovery Program for students on academic probation.
  • Provide academic coaching and study skills appointments.
  • Partner with Academic Intervention Team (AIT) to coordinate outreach and support efforts for 6- and 9-week interim grade intervention strategies.
  • Coordinate and lead First Year Seminar, NCAA teams and Orientation workshops.
  • Develop and deliver presentations to classes and campus groups promoting academic success strategies.
  • Assist with new student registration and academic advising for multiple programs of study.
  • Work closely with Lead Advisor to update and maintain accuracy of the Advisor Manual and Registration Guide.
  • Coordinate all aspects of placement and proficiency testing (ALEKS, CLEP, WebCAPE, etc.).
  • Monitor and support students receiving the Denver Scholarship Foundation (DSF) award to ensure completion of student success requirements.
  • Ensure accurate and timely data entry for AP, IB, and other placement-related scores.
  • Maintain compliance and security in all testing operations.
