About The Position

Substitute Teachers are responsible for providing instruction and supervision to students in various school settings during the absence of regular teachers. This role requires adherence to lesson plans, maintaining a positive learning environment, and ensuring the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of children. The position involves working at different school locations and maintaining professional competence and appropriate records.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
Must be at least 18 years of age; (Must be 21 to work in middle or high school).
Other experience as established by Maryland Law and Board of Education policy.
Knowledge of subject matter and appropriate instructional methodologies.
Evidence of exemplary human relation skills.
Evidence of exemplary organizational and planning skills.
Evidence of ability to work effectively with students, parents, and staff.

Responsibilities

Works at any school location 5 times a month, is required.
Follows lesson plans provided for appropriate learning experiences for students.
Supervises students in a variety of school-related settings.
Communicates and interacts with students and staff.
Provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of children.
Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
Maintains appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices.
Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities.
Maintains regular, on-time attendance.
Other duties as prescribed by Maryland State Law, Board of Education policy, Negotiated Agreement and Building Principal.
