The Substitute Teacher's role involves being available to substitute teach at least 4 days per month when school is in session. Substitutes are typically notified in advance, but same-day calls are also common due to unexpected illnesses. The primary function is not to lead a homeroom but to act as a Class Instructor or Teacher's Aide, focusing on teaching reading, math, and spelling groups using Direct Instruction programs. Responsibilities also include supervising students during lunch, recess, and transitions to and from specialized classes (Art, PE). During DIBELS Benchmark Assessments (grades K-6), the substitute will be part of the assessment team, assisting administration in testing students three times a year (September, January, May). DIBELS assessment duties take priority if called during these periods.
