About The Position

We are looking for exceptional and highly qualified educators to serve as substitute teachers for the 2026-2027 school year. Our goal is to develop a pool of qualified substitutes that we can call on when needed. Harvard-Westlake enrolls students in grades 7-12 on two separate campuses: Middle School (Holmby Hills) and Upper School (Studio City). Our middle school consists of 7th, 8th, and 9th grades, and our upper school houses grades 10, 11, and 12. We are looking for qualified individuals who have an interest and experience in teaching any of the core subjects (English, math, history, science, and world languages) and/or any of our elective courses in visual arts, performing arts, journalism, etc. For a full list of courses and to consider where you would be most prepared to help, please consult our academic course catalog.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in the academic discipline you would like to serve as a substitute in.
  • Experience in teaching middle or high school students.
  • A student-centered approach.
  • Strong teamwork skills.
  • Demonstrated collegiality and organization.
  • Flexibility to adjust to the varied demands of different classroom settings.
  • Ability to read and follow another teacher’s lesson plans.
  • Ability to communicate concepts clearly and concisely to students.
  • Complete online application, resume, and cover letter.
  • List availability, courses, and grade levels in cover letter.
  • Complete employment eligibility requirements, including reference checks, background screening, and onboarding paperwork.
  • Successfully complete all pre-employment and onboarding requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • MA preferred.
  • Interest and experience in teaching core subjects or elective courses.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a substitute teacher for the 2026-2027 school year.

Benefits

  • Substitute pay rate of $40 per hour with a minimum 4-hour guarantee per day.
  • Compensation for long-term substitutes (two weeks or more) is based on a prorated annual salary of $85,000.
