About The Position

In the absence of the classroom teacher, the substitute teacher provides instruction and manages the learning environment. The substitute is responsible for always ensuring student safety by actively supervising scholars while maintaining a positive environment. This position reports directly to the Regional Substitute Staffing Manager and is managed at the campus level for day-to-day assignments by the administrative assistant, campus principal and instructional lead team. IDEA substitute teachers are provided with competitive compensation while preparing them for success in the classroom working alongside high-performing teachers. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred or at least 1 year of experience working with children.
  • Pass a background check
  • Able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.

  • Remain in a stationary position for extended periods during instructional and planning activities.
  • Move about the classroom and school building to support students, access materials, and perform instructional duties.
  • Move, transport, position, or place instructional materials, classroom supplies, or student belongings weighing up to 25 pounds; occasional movement of up to 40 pounds may be required.
  • Position self by bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or reaching to support students in classroom and small‑group settings.
  • Provide physical support to students as required by IEPs and safety protocols, including assisting with mobility, positioning, and classroom transitions.
  • Operate computers, tablets, projectors, and other instructional or office technology with sufficient manual dexterity.
  • Observe, identify, recognize, and assess student behavior, written information, and instructional materials, and communicate effectively in person and electronically.
  • Respond promptly during emergencies and supervise or move with students in both indoor and outdoor school environments.
  • Work a minimum of 1 assignment each week
  • Be on time and complete all scheduled assignments
  • Execute lesson plans and perform all other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver Instructional Coverage & Classroom Support: Perform substitute teaching duties by following lesson plans, conducting assigned classes, and supporting instructional continuity.
  • Maintain Safe & Positive Learning Environments: Implement campus behavior systems, actively supervise students, reinforce positive behavior, and maintain safe classroom and campus environments.
  • Support Campus Operations & Student Supervision: Assist with additional campus duties, including hallway, lunch, recess, and other out-of-class supervision responsibilities as assigned.
  • Uphold Professional Standards & Compliance: Complete required professional development and compliance training while adhering to IDEA policies, confidentiality standards, communication expectations, professional conduct requirements, and dress in a manner consistent with school policies.
  • Build Positive Relationships & School Culture: Establish respectful, cooperative relationships with students, families, and staff while contributing positively to campus culture and communication.
  • Manage Assignment Responsibilities & Long-Term Coverage Expectations: Maintain accurate assignment records in Frontline, fulfill scheduling expectations, and, when serving in long-term roles, support lesson planning, curriculum implementation, grading, and instructional preparation.
