About The Position

St. Gertrude is seeking dependable and caring Substitute Teachers to provide classroom instruction and supervision when regular teachers are absent. The Substitute Teacher is responsible for following pre-planned lessons, maintaining a positive and safe learning environment, supporting student learning, and ensuring that classroom routines and expectations are followed. This is a part-time, as-needed position. Substitute Teachers may be called upon based on the needs of the school and availability.

Requirements

  • Previous experience working with children or in an educational setting preferred.
  • Ability to follow lesson plans and classroom procedures.
  • Strong communication, organization, and classroom management skills.
  • Dependable, flexible, patient, and able to adapt to different classroom environments.
  • Ability to maintain a safe, positive, and supportive learning environment.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of St. Gertrude.
  • Must meet any applicable school, diocesan, or regulatory requirements for substitute teachers.
  • All candidates receiving an employment offer must submit a pre-employment screening. The screening will include criminal background check, Family Care Safety Registration, drug screen, employment and educational licensure/certification verification, health screening, and any other screenings deemed necessary for employment. Any offer would be contingent upon successful completion of any required screening.

Responsibilities

  • Follow lesson plans, curriculum materials, and classroom instructions provided by the regular teacher.
  • Provide instruction and support to students in accordance with established classroom plans.
  • Maintain a positive, respectful, and structured classroom environment.
  • Manage classroom behavior using appropriate and positive classroom management strategies.
  • Take attendance and maintain accurate classroom records as required.
  • Monitor students to ensure their safety and well-being throughout the school day.
  • Follow school policies, procedures, and classroom routines.
  • Assist students with questions, assignments, and classroom activities.
  • Maintain appropriate supervision of students during classroom activities, transitions, lunch, recess, and other assigned duties.
  • Communicate any significant student concerns, incidents, or classroom issues to school administration.
  • Complete an end-of-day report summarizing classroom activities, student concerns, and any relevant information for the regular teacher and school administration.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding students, families, and school matters.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by school administration.
