About The Position

Holy Cross Academy seeks reliable, professional, and faith-supportive Substitute Teachers to provide short-term instructional support when classroom teachers are absent. Substitute Teachers maintain continuity of learning, uphold classroom routines, and support the Catholic mission of the school while ensuring a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment for students.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required; college coursework or degree preferred.
  • Experience working with children or in educational settings preferred.
  • Must support the mission and teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Ability to pass background check and complete required diocesan training.

Responsibilities

  • Supports and upholds the mission, philosophy, and values of Holy Cross Academy and the Catholic Church.
  • Models respectful behavior and reinforces Gospel values in interactions with students and staff.
  • Participates appropriately in prayer and faith-related activities as part of the school day.
  • Follows lesson plans, schedules, and instructions provided by the regular classroom teacher.
  • Provides clear directions and instructional support to students as needed.
  • Maintains continuity of instruction across a variety of subjects and grade levels as assigned.
  • Uses sound judgment to adapt instruction when necessary while maintaining academic expectations.
  • Establishes and maintains a positive, orderly, and respectful classroom environment.
  • Enforces school rules, procedures, and behavior expectations consistently and fairly.
  • Ensures student safety at all times, including during transitions, lunch, recess, and dismissal.
  • Responds calmly and appropriately to classroom challenges or emergencies.
  • Demonstrates punctuality, dependability, flexibility, and professionalism.
  • Communicates respectfully and effectively with administrators, faculty, and staff.
  • Provides clear feedback to teachers and administration regarding lesson completion, student behavior, and concerns.
  • Maintains confidentiality at all times.
  • Is available on an on-call or scheduled basis as needed.
  • Adapts quickly to different classroom settings, student needs, and grade levels.
  • Demonstrates initiative and problem-solving skills in the absence of direct supervision.
