About The Position

The Substitute Teacher will implement lesson plans during a regular teacher’s absence. This role involves assisting or leading in preparing for the academic, organizational, and social achievement of children, while also supporting their safety and well-being. The position requires a commitment to professional ethics, Montessori values, and effective communication within the school community. The role also involves mobility around campus, student interaction at a child's level, supervision during various activities, occasional lifting of materials, and maintaining focus in a dynamic environment.

Experience working with children
Classroom teaching experience a plus
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing

Responsibilities

Deliver clear expectations for academic responsibilities and class routines.
Give lessons to students in groups and to individual students as directed by Lead Teacher (LT) or Director.
Supervise students on field trips.
Recognize when students are not meeting academic or behavioral expectations and communicate this to LT or Director.
Follow recommendations for students (when shared by LT or Director) with an IEP, 504 or neuropsych evaluation and ensure that they have the supports in place to be successful.
Support students with individual behavioral plans (when shared by LT or Director).
Supervise children regarding emergency practices such as fire drills.
Build productive relationships with parents when opportunities to interact with parents occur (dismissal, assemblies, etc.).
Maintain daily attendance in Renweb.
Report all accidents/ incidents to LT or Director and complete accident forms as needed.
Perform duties related to arrival/dismissal of school.
Perform lunch/recess duties.
Demonstrate a strong commitment to professional ethics.
Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to Montessori Education by modeling the Montessori values of grace and courtesy, respect and responsibility in visible daily actions.
Demonstrate commitment to competent communications and conflict resolution efforts across the school community.
Protect the privacy and confidentiality of each student and colleague.
Take on duties as assigned.
Function as self-directed members in a team effort.
Meet appropriate professional standards and adhere to the philosophy and mission of Riverbend School.
Frequently moving about the campus to follow the school schedule, including ascending/descending stairs and transitioning between indoor and outdoor spaces.
Position oneself at a child’s level (e.g., kneeling, sitting, or crouching) and assist students with daily tasks like zipping jackets, tying shoes, or managing materials.
Effectively monitoring students during recess and outdoor activities in various weather conditions.
Occasionally moving or lifting classroom materials or equipment weighing up to 25 lbs.
Maintaining focus and safety in a moderately noisy environment with frequent interruptions; specific vision capabilities are required to ensure student safety and accurate record-keeping.
