About The Position

Provide instruction and manage a classroom in the regular teacher's absence, following provided lesson plans, managing student behavior, taking attendance, and ensuring a safe learning environment. Seeking a dedicated short-term substitute teacher to support impactful English language arts instruction at the Marvin W. Foote Youth Services Center. Our educational program re-engages detained youth through restorative practices, trauma-informed care, equity, and social-emotional learning (SEL). We specialize in targeted, short-cycle skill-building to help students thrive in core academic content.

Requirements

• Criminal background check and fingerprinting required
• High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma
• No professional work experience required
• Colorado Department of Education (CDE) substitute authorization or teaching license
• Basic knowledge of typical office equipment such as telephones, copiers, fax machines, email, etc.
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Basic classroom management and planning skills
• Basic organizational skills
• Intermediate verbal and written communication and interpersonal relations skills
• Ability to support programs designed to increase student achievement
• Ability and desire to work as a team member
• Ability to understand, appreciate, and make accommodations for student diversity
• Teacher must pass a state background check and complete the state-mandated Escape and Evade, PREA, and safety training before reporting starting the assignment.
• CDE Licensed Teacher: Required (Initial / Professional Teacher, or 5 year Substitute Authorization)
• Endorsement Required: English/Language Arts or considered In Field (Degree or passed Praxis)

Responsibilities

• Instruct students in large, small, and one-on-one situations.
• Create a classroom environment that maximizes instructional opportunity, supervise the behavior and well-being of students in the classroom and all educational settings, and administer discipline when appropriate.
• Collaborate with teachers, support personnel, administrators, and colleagues to enhance instruction and improve student outcomes.
• Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
