About The Position

Kokua Education is hiring substitute teachers for the 2026–27 school year in the Saint Paul and Minneapolis area. Substitute teachers step into K–12 classrooms to support learning, serve as positive role models, and help students see new possibilities. They may also assist with lunch and recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and test proctoring.

Teachers set their own schedule and can work up to five days per week, with a minimum commitment of two days per week. The role offers daily and long-term assignments, weekly pay, and support from Kokua. Applicants without a Minnesota substitute teaching license may receive guidance through the online application process and reimbursement for out-of-pocket licensing costs after they start teaching. Background-check costs are reimbursed after 10 assignments.

Requirements

• At least 6 months of experience working with children in any setting, such as a classroom, tutoring, or coaching.
• A bachelor's degree or higher.
• A Minnesota Substitute Teaching License or educator license; applicants without a license must be willing to complete the online application process.
• Confidence managing a classroom of students.
• Willingness to step in where needed, including supervision, tutoring, and test proctoring.
• Willingness to work at least 2 days per week.
• Ability to pass state and federal background checks.
• Belief that every child has a unique and powerful gift to share with the world.

Responsibilities

• Teach and support students in K–12 classroom assignments.
• Manage a classroom and help maintain a positive learning environment.
