About The Position

San Diego Jewish Academy is seeking an On Call Substitute Teacher for Middle and Upper School classrooms. For over 40 years, SDJA has been a leader in education as a pluralistic preschool - 12th grade school serving the Jewish community. The ideal candidate should be adaptable, comfortable stepping into diverse learning environments, and possess broad foundational knowledge across general subject areas.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field required.
  • A valid teaching credential required.
  • Experience teaching literacy, writing, math, science, and social studies is essential.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction to support diverse learners.
  • Strong classroom management skills.
  • Creates a warm, structured, and positive learning environment.
  • Uses assessment data to inform instruction and support student growth.
  • Communicates effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
  • A collaborative, flexible, reflective, and student-centered approach is essential.
  • Commitment to supporting the academic, social, and emotional growth of each child.
  • An interest in being part of a mission-driven Jewish day school community.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Willing to undergo both Live Scan background check and TB screening as part of the hiring process.
  • Applicants for all positions with SDJA are required to disclose all current and former employment with educational institutions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instructional support across 6th–12th grade classrooms as needed.
  • Facilitate lesson plans effectively across multiple subject areas (Humanities, STEM, Arts, etc.).
  • Maintain a structured, engaging, and supportive learning environment.
