About The Position

The Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind (AIDB) is seeking a Substitute Teacher for the Helen Keller School. AIDB is a comprehensive education, rehabilitation, and service program for individuals of all ages who are Deaf, Blind, DeafBlind, or multidisabled, and their families. Founded in 1858, AIDB serves over 30,000 individuals annually across Alabama through its various campuses, regional centers, and specialized educational programs. The three K-12 schools within AIDB include the Alabama School for the Blind, Alabama School for the Deaf, and Helen Keller School of Alabama, all dedicated to empowering students to reach their full potential. Requirements

• Must be able to obtain or hold a valid Alabama Substitute License or hold a valid Alabama Teaching Certificate.
• Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
• Must be physically able to perform the job.
• Must follow all AIDB policies and procedures and state and federal laws.

Responsibilities

• Assumes the responsibility for instructing classes when a teacher is absent.
• Assumes other responsibilities for that teacher during the time the teacher is absent.
• Assumes responsibility for overseeing pupil behavior in class and during lunch and other activities.
• Must remain awake and alert at all times.
• Must be able to adhere to confidentiality requirements.
• Must be able to handle emergency situations in a calm manner.
• Must have the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
