About The Position

The Archdiocese of St. Louis is seeking a Substitute Teacher to maintain a safe, respectful, and productive classroom environment while following lesson plans and school policies. The ideal candidate will effectively communicate with students and staff, manage classroom behavior, take attendance, and provide instructional support. This role requires the ability to quickly adapt to different grade levels, subjects, and classroom settings to ensure continuity of learning.

Requirements

  • Previous experience working with children or in an educational setting preferred
  • Strong communication, classroom management, and organizational skills
  • Ability to follow written lesson plans and directions
  • Dependable, flexible, and professional demeanor
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff
  • Practicing Catholic preferred but not required
  • Must complete required background checks and Safe Environment training in accordance with diocesan policies
  • All candidates receiving an employment offer must submit a pre-employment screening. The screening will include criminal background check, Family Care Safety Registration, drug screen, employment and educational licensure/certification verification, health screening, and any other screenings deemed necessary for employment. Any offer would be contingent upon successful completion of any required screening.

Responsibilities

  • Implement lesson plans and instructional activities provided by the classroom teacher
  • Supervise students in the classroom, hallways, cafeteria, playground, and other school areas as assigned
  • Maintain a positive, orderly, and respectful classroom environment
  • Encourage appropriate student behavior consistent with school expectations and Catholic values
  • Take attendance and complete any required classroom records or reports
  • Communicate effectively with school administration and staff regarding classroom needs or concerns
  • Adapt to varying grade levels, subject areas, and classroom routines as needed
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of students at all times
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding students, staff, and school matters
  • Follow all diocesan, school, and emergency procedures and policies
