Substitute Teacher (Montessori Classroom, All Levels)
About The Position
Sandwich Montessori School is looking for reliable, caring Substitute Teachers who can step into our classrooms when regular staff members are absent. Substitutes help maintain a calm, safe, and engaging environment while following the established routines and plans of the classroom. This position is a great fit for educators, retired teachers, college students, childcare professionals, or others with experience working with children who are looking for flexible, as-needed work. Substitutes may be contacted for planned teacher absences as well as occasional last-minute coverage. You do not need to be available every day.
Requirements
- Experience working with children in a school, childcare, camp, coaching, tutoring, youth program, or similar setting
- Strong communication skills and a professional, team-oriented attitude
- The ability to follow classroom routines and teacher directions
- A genuine interest in working with children
Nice To Haves
- Massachusetts EEC certification is preferred but not required.
- Prior Montessori experience is a plus, but not required.
Responsibilities
- Step into an established classroom and follow the teacher's daily plans and routines
- Work directly with children throughout the school day
- Support children's independence, engagement, and positive interactions
- Help maintain a calm, safe, and organized classroom environment
- Assist with classroom activities, transitions, outdoor time, meals, rest, and other daily routines
- Model respectful and appropriate interactions with children
- Collaborate with teachers and other members of the classroom team
- Follow school policies and health and safety procedures
