About The Position

Position is responsible for teaching the assigned subject and enabling each student to pursue his/her education in the absence of the regular teacher.

Requirements

Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent with at least 30 semester hours from an accredited institution of higher learning, verified by transcript.
Substitute pay $150.00 per day - long term assignments (more than 20 days in the same position) will be paid at a higher rate.
Portsmouth Public Schools requires substitutes to work a minimum of 1 day per school year to remain active.

Bachelor's degree preferred.

Responsibilities

Reports to the designated individual upon arrival at the school
Reviews lesson plans and schedules to be followed during the day
Maintains established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which assigned
Teaches the lesson plans outlined by the regular classroom teacher
Assumes responsibility for overseeing pupil behavior in class, during lunch and in other activity periods
Maintains maximum supervision of assigned students at all times
Reports in writing on the day's activities at the conclusion of each teaching day
Follows all policies, rules and procedures
Remains in the building during the hours assigned as a substitute
Models non discriminatory practices in all activities
Performs related tasks as deemed necessary by the principal or designee
