About The Position

Kokua is seeking substitute teachers in Rio Grande City and Rio Grande Valley, TX for the 2025-26 school year. This part-time role offers the opportunity to make a positive impact in the community, spark a love for learning in students, and help address the teacher shortage crisis. Substitute teachers will have a flexible schedule, up to 5 days a week, with work hours typically from 7:00 AM to 4:15 PM, though some flexibility is a plus. The role allows for autonomy in choosing assignments and locations, provides weekly paychecks, and offers a quick hiring process. It serves as a potential foot in the door for full-time positions at K-12 schools. Kokua provides W-2 employment, a supportive community with extended support hours, and the chance to lead classrooms and create a safe, supportive learning environment. Responsibilities may include lunch/recess supervision, hall and bathroom monitoring, tutoring, and proctoring.

Requirements

• 1+ year(s) working with students in any setting (classroom, tutoring, coaching, camps, etc.)
• Minimum of 48 college credit hours
• Confidence to manage a classroom of students
• Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently
• Strong belief that every child has a unique & powerful gift to share with the world
• Ability to pass state & federal background checks
