Job Summary A Substitute Teacher is responsible for teaching and supervising students in the absence of the regular teacher. They must follow lesson plans, manage classroom behavior, and ensure the safety and well-being of students. The substitute teacher helps maintain continuity in the educational process and may work across various grade levels and subject areas while reporting to the principal.

Requirements

  • Ability to manage classrooms across multiple grade levels (K–8)
  • Strong communication, classroom management, and organizational skills
  • Commitment to supporting the mission and values of Catholic education
  • Pre-Employment Screening: Candidates must submit a pre-employment screening including criminal background check, Family Care Safety Registration, drug screen, employment and educational licensure/certification verification, health screening, and any other screenings deemed necessary for employment. Any offer would be contingent upon successful completion of any required screening.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior teaching, substitute teaching, or educational coursework preferred

Responsibilities

  • Follow the lesson plan provided by the absent teacher or school administration.
  • Deliver instructional content to students using the appropriate materials, tools, and resources.
  • Adapt lessons and activities as needed to meet the needs of students.
  • Maintain a safe, respectful, and productive classroom environment.
  • Enforce school rules and policies to ensure the smooth functioning of the class.
  • Manage student behavior and address any disruptions using appropriate methods.
  • Actively engage students in learning activities to encourage participation.
  • Provide guidance and support to students to help them understand the material.
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback as directed by the lesson plan.
  • Administer quizzes, tests, and other assessments if needed.
  • Submit completed work and any necessary reports to the regular teacher or school administration.
  • Communicate effectively with students, school staff, and administrators.
  • Report any issues or incidents during the day, such as conflicts or accidents, to the appropriate personnel.
  • Ensure the physical and emotional safety of students at all times.
  • Follow any specific health, safety, or emergency protocols as required by the school.
