The Substitute Teacher's role is to be available to substitute teach at least 4 days of each month school is in session (36 days each school year). Substitutes are called in advance when possible, but often due to illness, they will be called the same day a substitute is needed. Substitutes typically take on the role of Class Instructor or Teacher's Aide, teaching reading, math, and spelling groups, requiring training in Direct Instruction programs. They are also responsible for supervising students during lunch, recess, and transitions to and from specialized classes. During DIBELS Benchmark Assessments (grades K-6), the substitute will be part of the DIBELS Assessment Team, assisting Administration in assessing students. These assessment responsibilities occur three times a year (September, January, and May), and if called to substitute during these times, DIBELS responsibilities take priority.
