About The Position

As a Substitute Teacher at Destine Prep, you’re more than someone who fills in for the day — you’re an important part of keeping our school community learning, growing, and thriving. You’ll step into classrooms across the school to provide continuity, stability, and support when a member of our instructional team is absent. Whether you’re leading a planned lesson, supporting small groups, supervising students, or helping maintain classroom routines, you’ll help ensure our scholars continue to experience a safe, structured, and joyful learning environment every day. We’re looking for dependable, flexible, and student-centered individuals who can confidently step into different classrooms, build positive relationships quickly, and maintain high expectations for our scholars. If you’re adaptable, enjoy working with children, and believe every school day should be a great day for learning, this is the role for you.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Reliability, punctuality, and flexibility
  • A calm, patient, and positive approach to working with students
  • Strong judgment and the ability to respond appropriately to changing situations
  • A commitment to equity, inclusion, and continuous growth
  • A team-first mindset and willingness to support the school wherever needed
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times

Nice To Haves

  • College coursework or a degree in education or a related field preferred
  • Prior experience working with children or in an educational setting preferred
  • A genuine belief that all students can achieve at high levels
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills
  • The ability to follow lesson plans while adapting to the needs of students and the classroom

Responsibilities

  • Keep learning moving. Follow lesson plans and instructional materials provided by the classroom teacher to ensure students continue making progress.
  • Lead with consistency. Maintain classroom expectations, routines, and procedures while creating a positive and respectful learning environment.
  • Build relationships quickly. Connect with students, establish trust, and create a classroom environment where every scholar feels seen and supported.
  • Be flexible. Move confidently between classrooms, grade levels, and instructional settings based on the needs of the school.
  • Support every scholar. Provide individual and small-group support, reinforce learning, and encourage students to stay engaged and focused.
  • Partner with the team. Communicate important information about the school day, student needs, classroom concerns, and completed work with the classroom teacher and leadership team.
  • Keep students safe. Follow all school safety, supervision, emergency, and student management procedures.
  • Be a culture carrier. Model Destine Prep’s values of excellence, empathy, accountability, and respect in every interaction.
  • Make the day count. Show up prepared, engaged, and ready to make a positive difference, even when the classroom plan changes.
