About The Position

Manages student learning in accordance with the goals and directives of the school and the division.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 45 college hours or Bachelor's degree from accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate
  • Knowledge of instructional practices in a school setting
  • Ability to follow lesson a plan
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Conflict resolution skills
  • Discipline management skills
  • Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds
  • Technology skills
  • Prolonged sitting and standing; bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
  • Repetitive hand motions including keyboarding; reaching
  • Lifting and carrying (less than 50 pounds)
  • Must be able to work with frequent interruptions and maintain professional demeanor under stress; must wear professional attire
  • High school diploma
  • Prior employment experience in a school setting

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and respect confidentiality of student and school personnel information.
  • Maintain a discipline and classroom control that foster a safe and positive environment for all students and staff in accordance with school and county policies.
  • Ensure the adequate supervision to assure health, welfare, and safety of all students.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Report to office upon arrival at school; check mailbox of absent teacher for materials requiring immediate attention; request clarification of school rules and procedures, if necessary.
  • Report all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to the appropriate authority immediately or as soon as is reasonably possible.
  • Implement lesson plans, while ensuring the integrity of academic time and in a manner which motivates students to learn and participate.
  • Organize students for effective instruction.
  • Dismiss all students from the classroom before leaving the building.
  • Complete a Substitute Teacher Report Form for the regular classroom teacher.
  • Collect and place students’ papers in regular teacher’s desk.
  • Return instructional materials, equipment, and keys to proper place.
  • Determine if his/her services will be required for the next school day.
  • Comply with and supports school and division regulations and policies.
  • Model non-discriminatory practices in all activities; Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers including the Texas Educator Code of Ethics.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by building administrator(s) in accordance with school/division policies and practices.
