About The Position

Kokua is seeking substitute teachers for the 2025-26 school year in Rio Grande City and Rio Grande Valley, TX. This part-time role offers the opportunity to make a positive impact in the community by empowering students and helping to address the teacher shortage crisis. Substitute teachers will have a flexible schedule, the autonomy to choose assignments and locations, and the chance to add representation to the classroom through their unique experiences. The role involves leading classrooms, creating a safe and supportive learning environment, and providing campus support such as lunch/recess supervision, hall monitoring, tutoring, and proctoring.

Requirements

• 1+ year(s) working with students in any setting (classroom, tutoring, coaching, camps, etc.).
• Minimum of 48 college credit hours.
• Confidence to manage a classroom of students.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
• Strong belief that every child has a unique & powerful gift to share with the world.
• Ability to pass state & federal background checks.

• Teach close to home in K-12 schools across the Rio Grande City and Rio Grande Valley area.
• Gain a foot in the door for full-time positions at high-performing K-12 schools.
• Receive W-2 employment status.
• Access Kokua's support team from 6 AM - 8 PM every day.
• Lead classrooms and help create a safe, supportive learning environment.
• Step in where needed throughout the school day to support the campus, including lunch/recess supervision, hall and bathroom monitoring, tutoring, and proctoring during testing season.
