About The Position

Grace Place for Children & Families welcomes applications for the position of Substitute Teacher on an ongoing basis. This role is temporary and candidates will be contacted as needed for on-call assignments. As an Early Childhood Substitute Teacher, your primary responsibility will be to provide support and assistance in various early childhood classrooms. In the absence of regular staff members, you will ensure the safety, care, and education of our students. Assignments may include assisting in the toddler through 4-year-old preschool classrooms.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience working with young children in a classroom or daycare setting or related environment, preferred
  • Physical stamina and the ability to engage in active play and movement with young children is required.
  • Patience, flexibility, and adaptability to adjust to changing classroom dynamics and routines.
  • Willingness to complete DCF coursework upon hire
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Bi-lingual skills, preferred
  • Willing to submit to Fingerprinting and Background Checks.
  • Compliance with Good Moral Character as described by DCF
  • Background check, fingerprinting required.
  • All applicants must successfully complete required State and National background screening as a condition of employment prior to beginning work at Grace Place for Children and Families. Screening is conducted in accordance with applicable Florida law, including Chapter 435, Florida Statutes, and, when applicable, Chapter 408, Florida Statutes.
  • Background screening includes fingerprinting for FDLE and FBI criminal history checks and review through the Florida Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse. Employment is contingent upon receipt, review, and approval of screening results.

Responsibilities

  • Follow lesson plans and instructions provided by the classroom teacher, maintaining consistency in the educational program
  • Supervise and engage with children in a nurturing and supportive manner, promoting their physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development
  • Implement daily routines, including meals, and outdoor play following the established schedule of the classroom
  • Assist in maintaining a safe and clean learning environment adhering to DCF health and safety regulations and protocols
  • Foster positive and inclusive interactions with children, encouraging their curiosity, creativity, and independent thinking
  • Collaborate with other staff members to ensure effective communication and smooth transitions for the children
  • Ability to engage and work effectively with children, parents, and support staff
