About The Position

To provide flexible support in both the classroom and kitchen settings at Bennington County Head Start. This position fills in for absent staff, either as a Teacher Assistant in classrooms or as a Kitchen Assistant supporting food preparation and delivery. The role ensures smooth daily operations and promotes a safe, developmentally appropriate, and healthy environment for children and staff.

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

CDA, AA, or above in Early Childhood Education
Experience with children aged zero to five

Responsibilities

Works with the Head Teacher, Teacher Assistant, and Co-Teacher providing classroom instruction and activities.
Follows the daily activity plan and prepares educational materials and special projects.
Helps with self-care routines, small and large group activities.
Supervises children at all times by sight, sound, and the ability to intervene at a moment’s notice.
Reads the sub folder in each classroom to ensure the classroom routine and safety protocols are followed.
Maintains educational supplies and art materials, monitors equipment, and cooperates with the Teacher/Teacher Assistant/Co-Teacher to maintain an orderly classroom environment.
Assists children at mealtime and activity time.
Assists with meal-related tasks for program events, family gatherings, workshops, meetings, and other assigned activities.
Picks up groceries, and handles food preparation tasks such as chopping, cooking, and serving meals.
Cleans up after each meal, including dishes, meal prep areas, and carts.
Maintains the cleanliness of all kitchens and kitchen appliances, complying with federal and state standards of safety and sanitation.
Rotates inventory and monitors expiration dates.
Performs other duties as assigned.
