About The Position

To provide flexible support in both the classroom and kitchen settings at Bennington County Head Start. This position fills in for absent staff, either as a Teacher Assistant in classrooms or as a Kitchen Assistant supporting food preparation and delivery. The role ensures smooth daily operations and promotes a safe, developmentally appropriate, and healthy environment for children and staff.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • CDA, AA, or above in Early Childhood Education
  • Experience with children aged zero to five

Responsibilities

  • Works with the Head Teacher, Teacher Assistant, and Co-Teacher providing classroom instruction and activities.
  • Follows the daily activity plan and prepares educational materials and special projects.
  • Helps with self-care routines, small and large group activities.
  • Supervises children at all times by sight, sound, and the ability to intervene at a moment’s notice.
  • Reads the sub folder in each classroom to ensure the classroom routine and safety protocols are followed.
  • Maintains educational supplies and art materials, monitors equipment, and cooperates with the Teacher/Teacher Assistant/Co-Teacher to maintain an orderly classroom environment.
  • Assists children at mealtime and activity time.
  • Assists with meal-related tasks for program events, family gatherings, workshops, meetings, and other assigned activities.
  • Picks up groceries, and handles food preparation tasks such as chopping, cooking, and serving meals.
  • Cleans up after each meal, including dishes, meal prep areas, and carts.
  • Maintains the cleanliness of all kitchens and kitchen appliances, complying with federal and state standards of safety and sanitation.
  • Rotates inventory and monitors expiration dates.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
