About The Position

Easterseals NY is seeking a per diem substitute Teacher Assistant to provide coverage on an as needed basis in Valhalla, NY. We are looking for dependable and reliable individuals who are able to work a flexible schedule and available to work with short notice. The ideal candidate will have experience with and enjoy working with children. As a substitute Teacher Assistant, you will work in integrated and self-contained preschool classrooms and collaborate with the Special Education Teacher to create a safe, warm, and caring educational environment for our students. You will adhere to all OCFS regulations, follow the schoolwide PBIS initiative, and collaborate with classroom staff, parents, education consultant, and administration.

Requirements

High School education or GED.
Experience with and enjoy working with children.
Dependable and reliable.
Able to work a flexible schedule.
Available to work with short notice.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor's degree preferred.
Two (2) years practical experience working with children is preferred.

Responsibilities

Work under the supervision of the classroom teacher.
Assist in caring for the physical needs of children.
Attend staffing and departmental in-service meetings as assigned.
Assist in keeping classroom and program supplies ready and well-maintained.
Maintain professional ethics in the building and out, regarding the discussion of pupils and their conditions.
Assist individuals with toileting and personal care needs when necessary.
Assist with behavior management of children under the supervision of the classroom teacher as outlined by Program and Agency policies.
Interact with children at all times in a nurturing and developmentally appropriate way, while encouraging self-help.
Assist in child observation, record keeping, and assessment.
