About The Position

This is a Part Time Substitute School Nurse (RN) role at Devereux PA Children's Services. The nurse will be responsible for medication administration and general first aid for students in a school setting, demonstrating an understanding of the nursing process and care delivery for students with special needs and medical challenges. The position provides daily "fill in" coverage for absent full-time school nurses across six approved private day school programs located in West Chester, Downingtown, Malvern, Audubon, and Landenberg, Pennsylvania. The schedule is Monday-Friday, 9:30 am - 1:30 pm, with an hourly compensation of $40.00-$45.60 based on experience. Devereux PA Children's Services operates innovative special education programs that work with families and school districts to equip students with the tools needed for success in their local schools and communities. These programs cater to children and young adults with various diagnoses including autism spectrum disorders, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and behavioral, emotional, and psychiatric challenges. A key philosophy across programs is Program-Wide Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PW-PBIS) to promote positive behaviors and create safe, supportive environments. Each year, over 1,000 children and adolescents receive specialized care with the goal of providing them with the academic, social, emotional, and life skills necessary to flourish.

Requirements

  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Pennsylvania preferred.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
  • Previous clinical experience in a behavioral healthcare setting and/or school setting strongly preferred.
  • Significant amounts of walking, sitting, and standing.
  • Some lifting and/or managing resistance required related to applying physical intervention techniques.
  • Proficient use of computers and office equipment.
  • Valid driver's license must be maintained.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safety of all students
  • Administer medication to students
  • Document all medication administrations and all related activities
  • Provide care as needed for students with special needs and medical challenges
  • Respond to medical emergencies in the school and provide general first aid as needed
