About The Position

The Town of Trumbull Department of Nursing is seeking a Substitute School Nurse for the 2026-2027 School Year. The hourly pay rate will vary based on the candidate's applicable prior school nursing experience. In the absence of the assigned School Nurse, the Substitute School Nurse will provide preventive, routine, and emergency health services to facilitate students' optimal physical, mental, emotional, and social growth and development. This role involves identifying health problems and disabilities, providing health education, referrals, and care to prevent serious health issues, and supporting the education process by ensuring student health.

Requirements

  • Current and unencumbered Registered Nurse License for the State of Connecticut.
  • Current certification in CPR for the Professional Rescuer.
  • Successful completion of Town of Trumbull and Trumbull BOE background check requirements.
  • Computer skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of one-year experience in pediatric nursing in a school setting.
  • Alternate nursing experience at an acute care facility, public/community health setting, or home health care may be substituted.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and protect the optimal health status of school-age children.
  • Manage communicable diseases containment, prevention, and awareness.
  • Provide health education and anticipatory guidance to students and families.
  • Participate in health education of students and families and collaborate with school and community resources.
  • Communicate with parents about student illness and changes in condition.
  • Document health visits and communication pertaining to student health in the Electronic Health Record.
