About The Position

This is an on-call position for a Substitute Registered Nurse. The role involves substituting for the Classified Registered Nurse as needed, assisting the Certificated School Nurse with health care plans, performing professional nursing tasks including emergency services and supportive care, providing first aid and emergency care, supervising staff in medication administration and delegated nursing tasks, maintaining student health documentation, and assisting with vision and hearing screenings. The Substitute Registered Nurse works as part of the building and District health services team to meet student needs and coordinate health care services within the scope of nursing practice. Work schedule, stipends, leave accruals, and holidays are in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.

Requirements

  • Current license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Washington.
  • Experience working with children and the community.
  • Experience supervising non-licensed persons.
  • Current CPR and first aid certificate.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of students, teachers, parents, and administrators while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Relates positively to youth and adults of varying socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Ability to express thoughts concisely and effectively.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in written and oral form.

Responsibilities

  • Substitute as needed for Classified Registered Nurse
  • Assist the Certificated School Nurse in implementing individual health care plans for students with health care needs.
  • Perform professional nursing tasks as needed, including emergency services and supportive care.
  • Provide first aid and emergency care to student(s) for the purpose of supporting safety of all students, cares for ill students, and act within the scope and standards of nursing practice.
  • Supervise designated school staff in the administration of oral medication to students.
  • Supervise school staff in the performance of delegated nursing tasks.
  • Maintains documentation (e.g. student health history, immunization requirements, current health status, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
  • Perform other nursing duties as assigned by the Director of Health Services.
  • Assist with tasks involved in vision and hearing screening.
