About The Position

South Lane School District is seeking qualified Registered Nurses to serve as on-call Substitute School Nurses for the 2026-2027 school year. This role ensures continuous nursing coverage when the District's School Nurse is unavailable, maintaining student health and safety. A key responsibility includes providing nursing delegation and oversight to Health Aides/Nursing Assistants in compliance with Oregon law. Assignments can vary in length from a few hours to multiple days based on district needs.

Requirements

  • Valid Oregon Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Knowledge of Oregon school nursing practice, delegation requirements, and applicable laws.
  • Ability to safely delegate nursing tasks to unlicensed assistive personnel in accordance with Oregon Board of Nursing regulations.
  • Strong assessment, clinical judgment, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to establish positive working relationships with students, families, staff, and community partners.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to utilize electronic health records and district data systems.
  • Ability to travel between district schools as needed.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise professional judgment.
  • Ability to physically perform assigned duties.

Nice To Haves

  • TSPC School Nurse endorsement.
  • Previous school nursing experience.
  • Minimum of one year of RN experience within the past five years.
  • Experience with nursing delegation and supervision of unlicensed assistive personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Provide school nursing services in accordance with Oregon laws, Oregon State Board of Nursing standards, and district procedures.
  • Provide required nursing delegation, supervision, and consultation to Health Aides/Nursing Assistants when serving as the acting District School Nurse.
  • Assess student health needs and provide appropriate nursing care.
  • Review and implement student Health Management Plans and emergency care plans as needed.
  • Consult with school administrators, staff, parents, and health care providers regarding student health concerns.
  • Support medication administration and other delegated nursing procedures.
  • Respond to student illnesses, injuries, and medical emergencies.
  • Assist with communicable disease response and implementation of district health protocols.
  • Participate in IEP and Section 504 meetings as needed during assignments.
  • Provide health-related guidance and training to staff when appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate health documentation and records.
  • Collaborate with district administration and school staff to ensure continuity of student health services.
  • Travel to schools throughout the district as needed.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance for accepted substitute assignments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
