About The Position

Arc Broward is seeking an enthusiastic Substitute Instructor to train and inspire students in their post-secondary certificate programs. This role involves educating students with special needs, ages 18+, in 3-4 month certificate programs. The instructor will utilize provided lesson plans and activities, assist with relaying classroom theory, and supervise students at externship sites. The curriculum covers areas such as animal care, culinary arts, healthcare operations, hospitality, material handling, financial literacy, social skills, and daily life skills. Responsibilities include administering assessments, assigning homework, and monitoring lab participation.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • MUST be comfortable handling and working directly with cats and dogs; willing and able to regularly travel to and assist at various local animal shelters.
  • Qualified instructors will meet the minimum state (FLDOE/CIE) educational requirements plus one year of job experience related to demonstrating teaching and classroom management skills.
  • Valid FL driver’s license and successful level II background check, physical and drug screen.
  • Must be 21 years older or older.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred with a preference for credentials within Special Education, Vocational Education, Psychology, Social Work, or related field.
  • Previous experience working with and or teaching adults with disabilities is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Educate students with special needs, ages 18+, in a 3-4 month post-secondary certificate program.

  • Assist with relaying classroom theory and supervising students at externship sites, assisting them to apply what was learned in the classroom.
  • Teaches curriculum related to animal care, entry-level culinary arts, healthcare operations, hospitality, and or material handling. On occasion, financial literacy, social skills trainings, and or daily life skills.
  • Administers assessments, assigns homework, and monitors lab participation.
