About The Position

Perform the cleaning and other tasks necessary for the proper upkeep of a building and its grounds. This role involves a variety of cleaning duties, minor repairs, groundskeeping, and assisting with school activities. The Substitute Custodian will work cooperatively with the Maintenance Department and ensure adherence to safety and health regulations.

Requirements

  • Must be age 18 or older.
  • Ohio Driver’s License.
  • Basic skills in repairing, cleaning, lawn care, and snow removal.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Ability to work effectively for a full shift without supervision.
  • Ability to operate cleaning equipment, basic hand tools, power tools, mowing and snow removal equipment, and a one-man electrical lift.

Nice To Haves

  • High School diploma or GED preferred.
  • Experience in maintenance, repair work, and cleaning, particularly floor cleaning.

Responsibilities

  • Clean assigned areas of the building by sweeping, dusting, scrubbing, stripping floors, shampooing carpets, and waxing.
  • Perform duties specific to the assigned building and shift, such as preparing, cleaning, and reorganizing lunchrooms, or cleaning locker rooms and gymnasiums.
  • Complete minor repairs and maintenance projects, including electrical repairs, plumbing tasks, carpentry projects, and painting.
  • Load and unload supplies, furniture, and equipment, including food and cafeteria supplies.
  • Perform outdoor tasks such as caring for lawns and shrubs, removing snow and ice, and general litter removal to maintain safe and pleasant grounds.
  • Assist with the preparation and clean-up for school or community extended-day activities.
  • Accompany and assist health and environmental inspectors.
  • Supervise student workers and volunteers assigned to custodial duties.
  • Requisition supplies through the appropriate channels.
  • Maintain a neat and clean personal appearance, potentially wearing a uniform.
  • Observe all safety and health regulations of the school district.
  • Assure appropriate labeling of hazardous materials.
  • Maintain positive relationships with staff, students, and parents.
  • Complete all required forms, such as sick leave and vacation forms.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
