The Substitute Building Custodian performs all cleaning duties for the building, including cleaning restrooms, showers, vacuuming and spot cleaning carpets, sweeping and cleaning steps, washing windows, cleaning woodwork, telephones, doors, knobs, and metal frames, student and teacher desks, lunch tables, dusting, washing and waxing floors, and collecting and dumping trash and recycling daily. The role also involves checking and filling paper towel and soap dispensers, keeping parking lots and grounds free of debris, setting up and tearing down rooms and the gymnasium for events, responding to emergency building needs, correcting immediate safety concerns, changing light bulbs, identifying building deficiencies and developing work orders, performing minor routine maintenance on custodial equipment, assisting with weekly playground maintenance, performing or assisting with gym floor refinishing, and performing or assisting with snow removal and applying ice melt/sand. Additionally, the position involves mowing, trimming weeds and bushes, securing the building after hours or during emergencies, maintaining regular attendance and appropriate appearance, assisting with energy management efforts, adapting to different shift schedules, and demonstrating professionalism, a positive attitude, cooperation, and the ability to follow instructions and accept constructive criticism. The Substitute Custodian adheres to break and lunch schedules and performs other duties as assigned.
