About The Position

Ulteig is seeking a Training & Quality Technical Manager to join our Power – Substation Department. This position will provide leadership to a substation engineering team with primary responsibilities for advancing technical training initiatives and implementing quality improvement efforts across the department. The team is also responsible for completing quality control reviews across the department for various client projects. In addition, the role will serve as the Substation Department representative on the Ulteig Quality Council. The Training & Quality team is responsible for the development, delivery, and ongoing maintenance of the Substation Department’s training program, as well as the establishment, oversight, and continuous improvement of processes, standards, and best practices related to quality. The team is comprised of professionals with civil and electrical engineering expertise who are dedicated to supporting the technical growth of staff, strengthening departmental performance, and ensuring consistent, high-quality project execution. The Training & Quality Technical Manager will collaborate closely with the substation leadership team to ensure successful project outcomes. The successful candidate will be a self-motivated leader with proven expertise in technical leadership, communication, resource management, employee engagement, business acumen, industry frameworks, and consulting engineering.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Civil Engineering required from ABET accredited university or equivalent
  • 15+ years of experience in the Engineering field preferred, Substation experience preferred
  • PE registration is required
  • Must be analytical, self-motivated, and possess the ability to work in high-pressure situations while maintaining a positive, enthusiastic, and collaborative attitude
  • Focused and passionate around internal engagement and maximizing development of others
  • Strong business acumen and industry knowledge
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, management, public and external agencies
  • High level of initiative and demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with clear expectations and highly responsive, internally and externally
  • Excellent presentation and verbal/written communications skills
  • Displays a high level of initiative and explores new opportunities while understanding the risk to the organization
  • Proven experience in Microsoft Software Applications (Word, Excel, Power Point, and Access) and additional software knowledge depending on specialty.
  • Must have authorization to work permanently in the US
  • Valid driver’s license preferred

Responsibilities

  • Management oversight of all training & quality initiatives within the Substation Department.
  • Reviews quality reports and quality escapes to identify root cause of quality errors.
  • Lead the Substation Training Committee team to develop and continuously improve the internal training program curriculum.
  • Communicates department-wide training and quality initiatives.
  • Collaborate with department leadership on training needs and quality process related improvements.
  • Engage in the lessons learned process and identify suggested updates to quality checklists as appropriate.
  • Maintains high levels of quality and responsiveness to meet internal and external client requirements in alignment with company expectations.
  • Direct the coordination of lunch and learn training opportunities.
  • Assess industry trends and new technologies to ensure proper training of department staff, including collaboration with CADD Committee on technology and efficiency improvements.
  • Maintain and grow positive team culture.
  • Provides strategic direction, leadership and technical oversight for employees on achieving individual, team, department, and organizational performance goals.
  • Creates and manages team budget for financial responsibility. Includes but is not limited to revenue, profitability, and indirect expenses (training costs, reward and recognition costs, team event costs, etc.).
  • Coaches, trains and develops technical engineering staff for growth and development opportunities. Responsible for regular 1:1 meetings, career development discussions, succession planning, quarterly reviews, individual promotions, team retention, and yearly team engagement survey results.
  • Actively manages team resource planning along with cross team and cross office resourcing collaboration, individual performance reviews, individual annual merit and bonus decisions, training and professional development for team members.
  • Support the role of hiring manager, as well as company-wide hiring for successful growth which includes regular evaluation of candidate resumes, technical phone screens, collaboration with HR partners, and regular in-person interviews and debrief assessments.
  • Participates and partners with members of the Sales team and engineers throughout the organization to promote revenue growth and expansion of services with existing and prospective clients.
  • Supports proposal efforts by developing quality control plan and schedule, providing resources by working with Proposal Development Team and Project Management group.
  • Maintains and builds positive client relationships.
  • Participates with cross functional team on strategic initiatives for the company and/or department.
