Substation Technician C is a non-exempt position focused on the construction, maintenance, and repair of substation equipment and systems. This role requires a 2-4 year working knowledge of substation equipment, apparatus, and wiring up to 525 kv. The position involves working in confined spaces and elevated areas, operating various construction equipment specific to the trade, and potentially working independently or with others. Occasional long hours may be required during emergency conditions. This position requires work at various locations and may involve travel to other states depending on customer demands, with approximately 90% travel required. The role emphasizes safety while performing construction, maintenance, repair, testing, adjusting, and troubleshooting of substation equipment/systems. This includes work on concrete foundations, ground grids, steel erection, buswork, switches, control cable terminations, control buildings, conduit, capacitor banks, transformers, regulators, circuit breakers, and circuit switchers. The technician is also responsible for maintaining company vehicles, test equipment, and tools. A significant aspect of the role involves working with energized high voltage systems, requiring skill and care to ensure personal and others' safety. The position requires gaining knowledge of construction standard practices, techniques, quality requirements, applicable codes, and standards, as well as understanding substation structural drawings.
