About The Position

This position is for a Relay Tech Apprentice 1st Year, with the potential to become a Relay Technician. The role requires the individual to live within 45 miles of Little Rock Port. This is a Safety Sensitive position and is subject to mandatory pre-employment and random drug testing. The job involves understanding basic electrical theory, using electrical test devices, reading relay control drawings and schematics, troubleshooting equipment failure, assisting in the installation of electrical equipment, and performing routine maintenance. Strong reading comprehension, active listening, critical thinking, active learning, and effective communication skills are essential. Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Excel, Word, and other Windows-based programs, are also required.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Regularly required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and lift up to one hundred pounds.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms.
  • Ability to lift or pull heavy cables and equipment weighing more than 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work above ground from aerial bucket trucks, at ground level, and in trenches or manholes.
  • Special vision requirements: close, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Proficiently operate electrical testing equipment, general office equipment, pickup truck, and bucket truck.
  • Successful Recommendation on EEI Tech Test.
  • Authorization to work in the United States is a precondition to employment.
  • Must live within 45 miles of Little Rock Port.

  • Associate degree in electronics/electrical/mechanical.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and interpret instructions and assignments related to basic electrical theory such as Ohm’s Law and series and parallel circuits.
  • Use electrical test devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, meggers, and continuity checkers to perform basic checks for continuity, resistance, voltage, opens, shorts, insulation breakdowns, and grounds.
  • Read relay control drawings and schematics.
  • Assist crew members in determining causes of equipment failure (Troubleshooting).
  • Assist crew members in installing electrical equipment to meet company specifications (Installation).
  • Perform routine maintenance on electrical equipment.
  • Communicate effectively one-on-one with coworkers, management, and external personnel.
