About The Position

Leidos is seeking a Substation Project Engineer to join their team. This role will partner substation engineers with AI and automation teams to build substation co-engineering solutions. The goal is to enable substation engineers to develop project strategies, ensure good engineering practices, and leverage AI to perform work faster, creating machines that lift the low-level burden and allow resources to perform work more efficiently and effectively. The position is fully remote but may require occasional client and in-office travel. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, or related degree with four (4+) or more years of related substation design experience.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with the internal team and clients to meet project needs.
  • A desire to lead next generation engineering strategies and practices; to make the discipline faster, more efficient, and more effective by removing low level and time consuming tasks.
  • Ability to meet deadlines under pressure situations.
  • Collaborator and leader who can work effectively in team environment to challenge and rethink approaches.
  • Self-starter who works independently and can provide both sound engineering judgement and explain the rationale behind it.
  • Strong analytical skills and proven problem solver in both team and independent environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Engineer Intern (“EI” or “EIT”) professional certification.
  • Professional Engineer (“PE”) License.
  • Working knowledge of protection and control design.
  • Experience with bus calculation.
  • Experience with relay settings.
  • Experience with grounding studies/lightning protection and lighting studies.
  • Experience with AC and DC calculations.
  • Experience with WinIGS or CDEGS.
  • Experience working on CAD tools.
  • Master’s degree in related field.
  • Field testing/commissioning experience.

Responsibilities

  • Executing both substation physical and P&C projects and the ability to explain why projects should be designed in particular ways.
  • Performing quality control checks on substation physical and P&C design projects.
  • Reading and designing substation design drawings such as one-line drawings, three-line drawings, schematics, wiring, plan-section drawings, conduit and grounding drawings.
  • Creating and checking bill of materials for substation physical and P&C.
  • Creating and checking estimates and schedules for various projects.
  • Performing Quality Control Checks Design.
  • Completing Project Lifecycle Support from Scoping to Final Design and Implementation.
  • Working with Client Standards to Implement Design.
  • Working with a Designer/Drafter to Create the Required Drawings for Each Project.
  • Providing Construction support.
  • Occasionally attending site visits at customer locations.
  • Complying with quality control and safe work practices and maintaining compliance with project scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Working with client standards to implement design.
