About The Position

ISG is a multi-disciplinary, employee-owned firm providing architecture, engineering, environmental, and planning services. We are seeking a Substation Physical Engineer who is responsible for performing assignments which have clear and specific objectives and require the investigation of a limited number of variables. The engineer will receive close supervision on new aspects of an assignment. Within our Energy Business Unit, ISG’s Power Group and MEQ team play a vital role in delivering resilient infrastructure solutions, supporting projects and clients local to Cleveland, OH.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree with specialization in the electrical discipline required.
  • 1+ years of previous consulting or substation engineering/design experience required.
  • Valid Drivers’ License required.
  • Proficient in the use of Bluebeam for redlines (or associated redlining software)
  • Proficient in the use of computer for design and understand CAD operations.
  • Proficient in the PC/windows environment with experience in e-mail, word processing, spreadsheets, etc.

Nice To Haves

  • EIT certification highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Project Engineer on routine to complex, single-discipline projects and routine to complex multi-discipline projects.
  • Submit major equipment, long lead materials, and additional procurement with the guidance of a senior engineer.
  • Coordinate work with other disciplines.
  • Interface with clients and vendors.
  • Create One Line Diagram, Three-line Diagrams, Electrical Yard, Grounding & Conduit Layouts, and create field calculations (Lightning, grounding, lighting, etc.) for High Voltage Substations under guidance from senior engineers.
  • Work and collaborate with drafters and designers to create diagrams, drawings, and design.
  • Coordinate all aspects of project document completion within the company and externally with clients and other design professionals.
  • Check the progress of work and alert the Project Manager of changes needed to the scope or other services.
  • Manage multiple projects at a time, whilst progressing the projects towards the targeted deliverable.
  • Communicate technical issues and progress clearly to project teams.
  • Perform necessary site visit forms with the guidance of a senior engineer and field measurements independently.
  • Work with QAQC engineers and other experienced design professionals when an interpretation or exception to the industry standard or client standard is required.
  • Develop knowledge of industry standards such as IEEE, NEC, NESC, and client-specific standards.
  • Develop working knowledge of substation equipment (transformers, breakers, disconnect switches, CTs, PTs, surge arresters, etc.).
  • Perform self-checks and support independent design reviews.
  • Manage drawing revisions, markups, and document control in accordance with client procedures.
  • Apply redlines provided during QA/QC processes to ensure accuracy and completeness of engineering deliverables.
  • Assume responsibility for engineering within his/her discipline for routine projects.
  • Support client’s construction issues on routine and simple projects.
  • Identify design inconsistencies, errors, and omissions.
  • Track assigned tasks against project schedules and budgets with guidance from the Project Manager.
